| Super
Projects
The National Institute will focus on a few critical super projects
too large and costly for any of its individual members or the
other centers to address. In this way duplication of effort can
be avoided. If one of the super projects involves areas of expertise
of a member center or institution, that center or institution
will be contracted to carry out the work. This strategy will avoid
duplication and lead to the most efficient use of the funds available.
On April 26, 2004 the School of Pharmacy and School of Engineering
held a meeting in Chicago where members of 9 companies, two universities,
and the FDA brainstormed issues related to the National Institute.
The following super project ideas were conceived and suggested:
• Fundamental materials science and particle property research
upon which to base prediction
• Prediction of stability, manufacturability, powder properties,
and blending
• Formulation prediction and a priori manufacturing design
• Cradle to grave process design and integration
• Cradle to grave continuous processing including integration
of primary and secondary manufacturing
• Six sigma process design and implementation
• Sensors and PAT for biologics
