Learning
-
Eta Sigma Iota
is America's first and only Homeland Security Professional Fraternity.
Founded in 2006, with the help and support of the Purdue Homeland Security Institute (PHSI),
this student organization is dedicated to bringing together students and faculty at
Purdue University who are interested in Homeland Security issues.
Their main objective is to foster academia involvement in emergency management and
Homeland Security, and consequently help develop leaders for our nation that are better able to plan, prepare for, respond to,
and mitigate or prevent emergency situations. In pursuit of this objective, they will coordinate and schedule various homeland security training via
workshops and seminars that will provide homeland security education certificates for their members.
Eta Sigma Iota is also dedicated to spreading community awareness of roles and responsibilities relating to
Homeland Security. In the future, they will encourage the establishment of
additional chapters at universities throughout the United States in order to create a National Fraternity.

Outreach
-
Purdue Homeland Security Institute recently completed a contract
with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to
coordinate and conduct emergency response exercises in Indiana
Districts 3 and 4. The Districts completed tabletop exercises in
September and October of 2006 and completed full-scale
exercises in both districts in January 2007. Both exercises included a WMD component (as
required by the contract with IN DHS) and tested the Districts’
emergency responders’ ability to react as a District team to various
catastrophic events to save lives, minimize suffering, and preserve
property.
