Welcome to the Purdue Center for Regional Development
Although most of us have a local community we call home, we really are residents of a larger
geographical space. We may live in one community, work in another, and frequent yet another. Collectively
these kinds of cross-jurisdictional activities create regional communities with economic, social,
and natural resource interdependencies. Most of our governmental structures are tied to
individual municipalities and sometimes need help figuring out the best way for local communities
to work together to address regional issues that will most effectively assure local success.
In February 2005, The Purdue Center for Regional Development was launched with the intent to
engage in applied research, policy analysis, and technical assistance that addresses high-priority
regional needs and policy issues; foster and broker networks and partnerships; and assist with
strategic planning on a regional basis.
