Mobility Challenges at the U.S. - Canada Border

The NEXTRANS Center will be hosting a conference on U.S. - Canada border trade, security, and mobility challenges at Purdue University on November 16, 2009.

Competition vs. Collaboration

NEXTRANS researchers are currently developing dynamic models by which small to medium trucking firms in the less-than-truckload (LTL) industry can collaborate to better utilize existing infrastructure and technological advances. 

Jet Travel On-Demand

NEXTRANS investigators are currently exploring the idea of a commercial "on-demand air service," which aims to enhance "doorstep-to-destination" mobility for citizens, utilizing very light jets.

Keeping America On-Track

NEXTRANS researchers are utilizing advanced visual sensing technology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of railroad track inspection.

  • Meet Our 2009 Undergraduate Interns

    The NEXTRANS Center’s Summer Internship in Transportation provides up to 6 competitively-selected undergraduate students with the opportunity to complete a ten-week program of transportation research and activities at Purdue University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, or The Ohio State University. Participants are exposed to the field of transportation through hands-on, collaborative research under the guidance of NEXTRANS faculty members and graduate students. By fostering a challenging environment in which students learn through discovery, the Center hopes to attract a new generation of leaders to transportation-related careers and graduate-level degrees.

  • Indiana High School Essay Competition Winners

    The NEXTRANS Center recently sponsored a high school essay competition for students residing in Indiana. Students were asked to write an essay on the following topic: "Why is transportation important to the future of Indiana? What transportation challenges is Indiana facing, and how might we solve them?" The goal of this contest was to encourage students to consider how integral transportation is to our lives, and potentially interest them in pursuing transportation-related careers and/or higher education in the field.

    The Center is pleased to announce that Chelsey DeLarm (Crawfordsville High School) and Mikayla Janney (Tri Junior-Senior High School, Straughn) have been selected as the top prize winners. Click below to read their award-winning essays.
