Habitat Tour Trail

Three images showing samples of the Habitat Tour: the trail map, a tour stop signpost, and the scene from stop number 5, the bottomland hardwoods, with an activatable button that will take the user to a discussion of the abiotic factors characteristic of this site. Link to the Field Guides Link to the Field Guides Link to the Field Guides The habitat tour takes you on a trail through the upper Midwest and Great Lakes where you will encounter a surprising variety of ecosystems, plants and animals, and will interview scientists seeking to better understand the relationships among them, threir soils, climates and terrains, and the impacts of human development. Each site highlights a key habitat type. A signpost initiates the visit, providing an orientation to its particular features. Upon completing the introduction, the visitor is able to get an up close and personal look at the many-featured elements of the Midwestern and Great Lakes habitats. By searching out hidden buttons, the visitor discovers special features of the site. Some reveal a fascinating array of species, cross-referenced to the Species Guide. Others open demonstrations of habitat phenomena or video clips that take the visitor to key locations in the habitat where volunteers work with scientists to preserve endangered species and systems.

Habitat Management and Monitoring introduces the user to real-life case studies where scientists and student volunteers are employing monitoring tecniques to make a real difference in our understanding of the processes operating in natural systems.
