Welcome to the DURI Application
Read and follow ALL application information carefully
An undergraduate research internship is a great way to explore a field, build research skills, and develop a working relationship with a group of faculty members. There are several things you should do BEFORE you apply that can lead to a good match and a successful internship:
- Read the project listings carefully. Do you understand what the project is about? Do you have the starting qualifications? Do you have a strong interest in this project?
- Examine your time commitments for the term. Will you be able to devote at least six hours per week (or the required minimum) over the course of the term?
- Review your priorities. Once you accept a research internship, you are expected to continue for the full semester (longer, in a few specified cases).
You should apply only to projects for which you have the qualifications and commitment. Choose carefully: you may not apply for more than five projects.
There are new projects each semester. If you don’t see one that interests you this semester, try again next term.
Completing Your Application
A separate application is required for each project. Although you may return to make additional applications later, your best plan is to complete your applications in one session. You will save time because you will need to enter contact information and data only once.
For each internship you will need to submit:
An online application including:
- Your contact information and data.
- Your statement of interest (limited to 400 words).
- Additional requested information.
- An official copy of your transcript. (Please note that official transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from the Registrar’s office and, if hand-delivered by the student, bear the Registrar’s signature across the back envelope flap. Transcripts may be picked up at the Registrar's kiosk in Hovde Hall while you wait.)
- A copy of your resume
Before applying, you may also want to review a complete description of the application process.
