Beginning your DURI Application
Read and follow ALL instructions carefully before starting.
1. Review the list of open DURI projects. Be sure to look for opportunities outside your
major; all DURI research projects are multidisciplinary and you might find a project matching
your skills and interests in an unexpected place. Be sure to review the qualifications listed for the project and only apply for those projects that match your areas of interest and expertise.
2. Prepare a statement of interest for each project before you begin the online application
process. Each statement of interest should be approximately 400 words long. The statement of
interest is your opportunity to tell the sponsoring professor what interests you about his
or her project and what skills or experience you can bring to the project. You will cut and
paste your statement of interest into the online application once you have started, so be sure
to have it open when you begin the online application process!
3. Once you have selected the project(s) to which you want to apply and prepared a statement
of interest for each project, you are ready to begin the online application process. Follow
the links to the DURI application form and enter your contact information.
4. After you have entered your contact information, you will be taken to a screen listing
all open projects. Choose your first project by selecting the box next to the project. You
may select up to five(5) projects. Press enter to go to the next screen.
5. You will complete an application for each project that you select. Paste your statement
of interest into the appropriate field for each project and answer the appropriate questions.
6. After entering your statement of interest and providing the additional requested information,
you will reach a page providing a link to a printable copy of your application. Print this screen.
If you are applying to more than one project, select the next project button and complete the
application for your remaining applications if applicable. Be sure to print each application
for your records. You do not need to submit a paper copy.
7. For each project to which you apply, you will also need to submit 1.) an official transcript and 2.) a resume. Please note that official transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from the Registrar’s office and, if hand-delivered by the student, bear the Registrar’s signature across the back envelope flap. Transcripts
and Resumes must be received by 5:00PM on the last day of registration. You can request a transcript
online at http://www.ssinfo.purdue.edu. Transcripts are also available, while you wait, at the Office of the Registrar in
Hovde Hall, Room 45. Allow 5-7 business days for processing time if you mail or have these materials mailed.
Please mail or deliver your transcript(s) and resume(s) to:
