PLM Center of Excellence Newsletter
Industrial
Advisory Board Meeting
November 13th, 2009.
Volume
4— Issue 1- March
2009
Welcome
to the Purdue Product
Lifecycle Management
Center of Excellence.
The center is a bold
initiative that will
fuse the talents of
the schools of Engineering,
Management, Science
and Technology to become
a beacon of manufacturing
excellence through better
management of enterprise
resources and the deployment
of new technologies.
The
entire Purdue community, through the Product Lifecycle
Management Center of Excellence, will be an agent of
economic progress and a resource for industry. Through
the study, training, and implementation of product lifecycle
management, the Center will provide our industry partners
with the knowledge and tools
- to study the implications of implementing PLM in a
cross-functional environment;
- to
make transparent risks and rewards of product strategies,
- to
leverage a highly trained and skilled workforce, and
- to
transition new technology into the market place.
We
will save our partners valuable resources and time,
connecting them with the frontiers of technology where
new tools and approaches accelerate innovation and add
greater value to new product strategies. Through a true
multi-disciplinary approach, Purdue will mimic the multiple
functional organizations of a corporation, with marketing,
design, engineering, technology, manufacturing, finance
and organizational psychology all participating in the
product development process. This approach offers both
our partners and our students a unique environment for
learning, research and piloting real-world projects. The center multiplies the intellectual power of the
university and its core strength in training and learning
with the practical savvy and entrepreneurship of industry
and so realizes exceptional return on the investment
by our partners.
