New Ventures Laboratory

A unique concept, the New Ventures Laboratory (NVL), allows students to work on a variety of real-life business start-up cases. The NVL arranges and sponsors visits to campus from practicing entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and other relevant experts. Students are formed into project teams that serve as a consulting mechanism for an actual start-up company or a venture funding organization. The NVL will sponsor "Entrepreneurs in Residence." These campus visitors will teach all or part of an entrepreneurship class and will conduct special workshops.

The NVL also allowed the creation of a Student Managed Venture Fund (SMVF). Under supervision of faculty and corporate experts, students are carefully selected and allowed to participate in an interdisciplinary seminar addressing the issues of venture and other forms of capital. Students learn about investing capital and after receiving approval and guidance, make actual investments from the SMVF.
