Cleveland Shields

Cleve Shields, Ph.D. is a Professor of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Health & Human Sciences.  He conducts research on physician-patient communication in cancer care, in pain management, and with adolescents. He is also interested in health disparities due to race, poverty, and geography such as rural or urban locations. He has support from the National Institutes of Health to examine physician-patient communication. With a colleague at IUPUI, he recently received a NIDA grant to study physician-patient communication in opioid management and drug addiction in non-cancer chronic pain patients.
