Getting Your ZZZ's

Approximately 47 million Americans suffer from sleep deprivation.  Acute or chronic lack of sleep can lead to decreases in mental clarity and productivity, increased susceptibility to injury, weight gain, irritability, and headaches. This class will focus on the importance of sleep, overcoming sleep obstacles and developing good sleep hygiene.

Prevention:
Keys to Good Health

Preventative screenings play an important role in keeping you healthy. According to the Partnership for Prevention, over 29,000 lives could be saved if employees received colorectal cancer screenings, mammograms and flu shots in a timely manner. This class will highlight gender and age appropriate tests that are key to maintaining your health.

Be Your Best:
Self-Care 101

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that all Americans participate in age appropriate screenings to improve health. In this module, participants will learn about effective self-care techniques, identify a timeframe for necessary screening tests and will learn three simple ways to immediately improve their health. Participants will also create a personal health record to increase compliance with preventive measures and to track current conditions.

Maintain Your Middle:
Keys to weight loss

It’s no secret that Americans are getting heavier. Millions struggle with weight management issues every year. This module will take participants back to the basics of nutrition and exercise to teach them how to achieve the proper weight for their body. Participants will learn why diets typically fail, recognize why they must change their lifestyles to succeed and they will assist in creating a personalized plan of action.

Everyday Fitness

Nearly 40% of Americans do not participate in any form of leisure-time physical activity. This trend of sedentary lifestyles is greatly impacting the overall health of our citizens. By increasing the amount of exercise a person gets, we can reduce the risk of or severity of several medical conditions including high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. Through this module, participants will recognize several ways to incorporate exercise into every day, learn proper structure for an exercise regimen and discuss ways to overcome barriers to exercise.

Stress Less

Do you feel stressed? Are you anxious or crabby? Do you have trouble sleeping? Stress is linked with several health conditions and is associated with presenteeism (physically present but mentally distracted). While we all feel stressed on occasion, it is necessary to learn techniques to help us cope in times when stress seems almost chronic. Participants will learn to recognize their personal sources of stress and common triggers, will identify various means of preventing or coping with the stress, and if time permits, will try a few simple techniques.

Going Up In Smoke?
Get a grip on your tobacco habit

In 2006, Indiana ranked the 5th highest state for number of adult smokers, well above the National average. Smoking, as well as other forms of tobacco use, has been linked to several major health conditions. In this awareness program, participants will recognize their own reasons for smoking and barriers to overcoming their habit, will identify new and useful ways to quit smoking, and will develop a personal smoking cessation plan of action.

Solving the Maze:
Wise use of the healthcare system

With health care costs spiraling out of control, consumers are beginning to realize that they need to take a more assertive and proactive approach to obtaining appropriate health care services in an effort to contain these costs. This module will educate participants about the need for a primary care physician, age appropriate screening tests, wise use of the health plan including a discussion on generic drugs and smart use of the emergency room.

Nutrition:
Getting back to basics

Based on the American Dietetic Association meal plan, participants will learn how to choose and prepare healthy food options, differentiate healthy choices from “junk” food and assist in creating a personalized dietary plan.

Lubing your Levers and Gears:
Ergonomics 101

Over 41 million admissions to an emergency room department were made in 2005 due to workplace injury. This module will focus on ways to reduce risk and will be customized to meet the specific needs of the company.

In this module, participants will learn the basics of heart health, will recognize personal risk factors both genetic and lifestyle related, and will identify ways to reduce risk by changing modifiable risk factors.
