This is an orientation to online (electronic) resources that are useful in investigating commercial potential. They include URL's; search engines such as AltaVista, Excite, and Google; directories (Lycos, MSN Search); periodical, newspaper, and reference databases (ABI/Inform, Dow Jones, LEXIS-NEXIS); federal government data, FED-STAT; trade associations; online electronic resources of the national laboratories; useful online newsgroups and bulletin boards. Some discussion of data mining – looking for patterns within and among the contents of databases is included.
