Center Overview
The Oncological Sciences Center is the Discovery Park Center that blends basic cancer research and engineering research to cultivate and support innovative, multi-investigator, interdisciplinary research teams at Purdue University. The OSC provides an environment where there is cross-fertilization of ideas between faculty of disparate disciplines. Ideas from research fields outside of biology and medicine provide novel solutions to problems that currently hinder research and development moving forward.
With the interdisciplinary interactions that the OSC fosters, translation of discoveries into clinical practice is more efficient. This translational research imparts an increasing demand for more interdisciplinary, team-oriented research efforts to impact the cancer patient. The OSC provides resources and support to allow such interdisciplinary cancer research to proceed allowing the translation of new knowledge into innovative, evidence-based strategies to prevent cancer, effectively detect and eradicate it at early stages, and ultimately diminish the devastating effect cancer has on society.
