Research Interests:

Modelling of solar cells of all types. Direct energy conversion. Solid state devices.

Impact Statement & Explanation of Research:

Detailed models of solar cells are used to: understand the the mechanisms that limit the efficiency of the cell, propose improvements in their design, interpret measurements made on the cells, predict cell operation under various operating conditions and spectra, and verify the validity of simpler models. The simple models are particularly useful when examining complex optical systems that may be incorporated into high efficiency solar cell systems. The use of detailed numerical models allows us to develop predictive models that do not require the usual simplifying assumptions.
