PhD, University of Illinois, 1979
Research Interests:
Nanoelectronics, Nanoscale electronic transport, Spin electronics, nanoscale energy conversion, molecular electronics and mesoscopic superconductivity
Research Impact Statement:
My research is focused on understanding current flow on an atomic scale and its application to electronic devices for information processing, energy conversion and storage. For example every laptop has in excess of 100 million nanotransistors each having an active region less than 500 atoms long. Understanding current flow on this scale requires a different viewpoint from the one commonly taught and this is what our research is broadly about.
Current Projects:
Spin-based logic devices, supported by the Nanoelectronics Research Initiative Nanoscale Energy conversion and storage
