The Birck Nanotechnology Center (BNC) is one of the core centers in Purdue’s Discovery Park, a network of academic interdisciplinary research centers that address societal scale challenges through the integration of discovery and delivery. The BNC, with 45 resident faculty and 220 graduate students from twelve disciplines, is housed in a building that includes the 25,000 sq. ft. Scifres Nanofabrication Lab (a Class 1-10-100 cleanroom along with an integrated bio-pharma cleanroom) and 22,000 sq.ft. of specialized laboratory space for nanometrology, materials characterization, nanochemistry, biomedicine, device characterization, and materials synthesis.

The responsibilities of the Managing Director include:

  • Supervise research engineers in cleanroom and laboratories. 
  • Direct and manage staff by providing leadership, guidance and support, including backup and assistance in technical duties.   
  • Interface with students and faculty working in the facility.   
  • Provide leadership in the operation of the cleanroom and laboratories, maximizing research capabilities.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or science with an emphasis on mechanical and electrical systems and semiconductor processing.
  • Five years experience in the operation and repair of semiconductor-style processing equipment and other equipment and processes used for nanotechnology
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Supervisory skills
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle interruptions and balance multiple and varied tasks
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
