How to Access the BNC
Welcome to the Birck Nanotechnology Center! We hope you will find your time here both rewarding and enjoyable! On this page you will find several links that will help guide you through the process of becoming a user in our world-class research center.
All users are required to take two core training courses:
• BNC 105: Facility Orientation
• BNC 150: Fume Hood Training
If you will be using our cleanroom, lasers, and/or doing bio-nanotechnology research, you will be required to take additional safety courses in those areas. In addition to the core courses, you will also take specific training on any equipment you will operate in the cleanroom and/or the laboratories.
The BNC is a shared-use facility. This means that the lab and cleanroom equipment is available for qualified users to operate, and maintenance of the equipment is paid for by collecting fees from all users. These fees are typically cross-charges paid for by your professor’s research grants, or in the case of outside users these fees are paid through accounts you establish with our business office. Keeping track of equipment usage is done through our on-line equipment enabling and tracking program called Coral. You will need a Coral account to do research work in the center. Links are provided below to help you establish this account.
So, again, welcome to one of the finest nanotechnology research facilities in the country! Please read through the information contained in the links below, and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us.
