Economic Impact of PurdueUniversity's Discovery Park

Discovery Park (DP) was launched in August2001 with a $26 million grant from the Lilly Endowment.  These funds supported the activities of DP,helped attract top faculty, and initiated new projects.  DP programs were further supported by theLilly Endowment with a $25 million grant in February 2005.

To date, DP economic impact includes:

  • 44 new companies seeded and/or assisted
  • 174 disclosures and 27 licenses/options onintellectual property created within DP
  • 185 jobs created within Discovery Park
  • $506.6 million in externally sponsored researchto DP Centers, $140 million in 2009-10.
  • 100+ companies have been engaged with DiscoveryPark Centers, using technical capabilities in laboratories and partnering on Center projects
  • 172,000 hours of work provided by 461 studentsto 154 Indiana start-up companies as part of the Interns for Indianaprogram.  26 students have been hired bytheir internship company and 52 have been hired with other Indianacompanies.  60% of graduated IfI studentsstay in Indiana
  • 4410 faculty and students involved inentrepreneurial education and activitiesAround 20 strategic global partnerships

Discovery Park is educating leaders for tomorrow and hiringand retaining the brightest minds in the state of Indiana.  Discovery Park is speeding up new inventionsand accelerating technology commercialization that is creating high-techindustry in the state of Indiana.  DiscoveryPark activities have had tremendous economic impact in shaping Indiana's future.
