Summer 2012: Meet Dr. Gertjan van Dijk.
June 18, 2012
Meet our visiting Professor, Dr. Gertjan van Dijk of the Netherlands. Dr. van Dijk is currently the Acting Chair of the Neuroendocrinology group at the University of Groningen. His research encompasses many aspects of ingestive behavior, including the role of diet in development, obesity, diabetes, exercise, and genetics. During his time here at Purdue, Dr. van Dijk will engage in projects related to early life experience, metabolism, and stress. The goal for the project is to determine how early life stress influences the development of diabetes over time and how incretin hormones are involved.
In addition, Dr. van Dijk will engage our students in lectures in integrative neurobiology of energy balance, behavioral energetics, and neuroendocrinology of exercise. In the Psychological Sciences lab, Dr. van Dijk will demonstrate his highly valued surgical skills and technique in small animal venous catheterization.
See "Events" for Dr. van Dijk's lecture and seminar on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 12noon.
Lecture topic is "Integrative Neurobiology of Energy Balance; a view from Groningen".
