S. Kathleen Salisbury, professor of small animal surgery, has been appointed associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Veterinary Medicine.
She succeeds John Van Vleet, who retired June 30 after a 43-year career at the school. Van Vleet served as associate dean for 22 years.
Dean Willie Reed says Salisbury is a proven leader who is passionate about veterinary medical education and is well-prepared to assume this new leadership position.
Salisbury joined the veterinary school faculty in 1984. In 1988 she was appointed chief of small animal surgery, and in 2000 she was named assistant dean for academic affairs.
Her skill as a teacher has been recognized numerous times, including nationally as the recipient of the Carl J. Norden-Pfizer Distinguished Teacher Award, which is considered the most prestigious teaching award in veterinary medicine in the U.S. Salisbury is a nine-time recipient of the School of Veterinary Medicine’s Weedon Faculty Recognition Award, and in 2003 she was inducted into the Purdue Book of Great Teachers.
