Ecology, Ecosystems and Food Security:
The Challenge of Realizing the Virtuous Cycle

Dr. Sylvie Brouder

Thursday, September 22, 2016

12:00 – 1:15 PM, Deans Auditorium (PFEN 241)

This presentation will review key ecological concepts relevant to agricultural production and food security. Theoretical pathways for simultaneously achieving productivity and stewardship goals will be discussed in the context of the varying scales at which production and ecological/environmental costs, benefits and trade-offs are realized. Management impacts on system-level productivity and other ecosystem services will be framed within the context of adaptation to and mitigation of climate change and the strength of the knowledge foundations underpinning potential “climate smart” management strategies and policy.

The seminar is open to the public. This is part of a weekly seminar on Food Security, where invited speakers from Purdue and outside the university help elevate the dialogue on the availability, access, and use of food in our world. Please do come and engage in dialogue with students and our expert speakers.
