Building Partnerships: Integrating Sustainbility into Campus Culture

Student sustainability summit to take place February 20th at 2PM in the Discovery Learning Research Center:

Since early this fall, Purdue students have been organizing themselves for an all-campus sustainability summit which will take place February 20th in Discovery Learning Research Center 2:00 – 5:00 PM with a networking happy hour from 5:00 – 6:30 PM.  The undergraduate and graduate students planning the summit have combined forces with different sustainability initiatives at Purdue’s including the centers in the Global Sustainability Institute, Office of Sustainability, and Global Policy Research Institute to host an event that will enhance partnerships, increase collaboration opportunities, and showcase student sustainability projects.  The agenda will include an introduction of current sustainability initiatives at Purdue, an interactive envisioning session with graphic facilitators, a student showcase of sustainability projects, and a networking happy hour.  President Mitch Daniels has been invited to provide a few remarks during the networking happy hour.  All faculty, students, staff, and student organizations are invited to contribute their voices toward creating a unified vision for integrating sustainability into the campus culture at Purdue.

2:00 PM Welcome and Overview (10 minutes) Lindsey Payne and Aaron Goldner and Student Sustainability Council


2:10 PM Purdue’s 5 Centers and other Sustainability Centers Introductions (20 minutes) Dr. Turco, Purdue Water Community; Dr. Huber, Purdue Climate Change Research Center; Dr. Raymond, Center for the Environment; Dr. Ejeta, Global Food Security; Dr. McCann, Energy Center; Michael Gulich, Director of Sustainability; Dr. Diaz, Global Policy Research Institute


2:30 PM Student Examples of Sustainability Success (30 minutes) Give practical examples of student-led initiatives around sustainability.


3:00 PM Interactive Envisioning Session (90 minutes) Open discussion with all participants on applying real integrated solutions of sustainability; participants break out to tables, white boards, lead by graduate students, brainstorming session, develop future ideas. Ex: How do you increase collaboration between centers, faculty, students, and community?


4:30 PM Wrap-up discussions, future work, and sharing results


5:00 PM Networking Happy Hour and Poster Session (60 minutes)
