"ESE provided me with an opportunity to explore different departments. Coming into the PhD program, I was not 100% sure what I wanted to study. Since I was accepted through ESE instead of a particular department, I was able to sample different labs and areas of research, which became very beneficial to me in selecting a particular area of research for my PhD."
