Katherine Ortegon
Spotlight:
Katherine Ortegon

Katherine Ortegon, a second year PhD student whose research is focused on sustainable manufacturing specifically, the reverse logistics process and end-of-service life strategies for wind turbines, recently received a travel grant to participate in Windiana 2010, a seminar sponsored by the Indiana Wind Working Group. At the seminar, she was involved in the "Wind Power Supply Chain" track, one of the three tracks offered by the conference. Katherine said, "Attending the conference was a great opportunity to contact manufacturers and suppliers who could be interested in participated in our research project, get information about wind turbine manufacturing processes in Indiana, identify future challenges in reference to wind supply chain, and finally, to participate in the small wind manufacturing tour in the zone."

Katherine OrtegonThis experience provided her an overview of wind industry in the Midwest, and will help in her preparation for an oral presentation about End-of-Service life of Wind turbines at the International Conference of Remanufacturing in Glasgow, Scotland.
