Reducing our ecological footprint
...through innovative discovery, life-cycle thinking, and sustainable management of natural resources. Understanding the dynamic, complex processes that link human activity and ecological systems is essential to improving the way we manage our natural resources and develop solutions to the environmental threats facing the world today. Effective discovery and learning in this area will require collaboration among biological, chemical, computational, physical, health, and social scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. For a detailed look at the program please see our ESE Program Handbook. For a quick overview of the program we provide a two page flyer (pdf).

The Ecological Sciences and Engineering (ESE) Program provides students with an interdisciplinary/interdepartmental educational experience that integrates the science and engineering concepts needed to address grand challenges in environmental sciences.

The program offers a research based thesis Masters, a Doctoral program, and a non-thesis Masters. You can read what are students are saying about their experience in the Spotlight below in the righthand column. Simply refresh your browser to load a different student quote.

Spotlight
"By taking an inter-disciplinary stance this program provides the pathway for you into new fields and experiences. Personally I benefited tremendously from taking courses such as Ecology and Benefit-Cost Analysis. These courses have made an effect on my career choices and my professional track. If you are passionate about the environment, or about making a difference in people's life and want to be challenged and learn new things, then ESE is for you. "
