John Bickham, Director, participated in the 59th annual International Whaling Commission meetings in Anchorage , Alaska , May 5 - 21, 2007. The IWC trip is related to our project on the population genetics of bowhead whales. Student, Ryan Huebinger also was in attendance. John and Ryan co-authored several papers that have used the genetics data we generated over the past 4 years. The study is related to the subsistence harvest of bowhead whales by Alaskan Eskimo communities and the hunt is regulated by IWC.

Caleb Phillips , C4E Graduate student is in Russia on an island in the Sea of Okhotsk during the months of May and June. He is assisting an ongoing program by Russian scientist s who are studying the population biology of Steller sea lions. The studies focuses on evolution and stock structure of the species and this will serve as Caleb's dissertation topic.

John Bickham attended the 54th Annual Meeting of the Southwestern Association of Naturalists April 19-21, 2007 at Tarleton State University , Stephenville , TX . Student, Caleb Phillips also attended and he and John (and others) coauthored a paper that Caleb presented on population genetics of Steller sea lions. John is the Past-President of SWAN and serves on the Board of Governors for the Assocation.

Linda Lee, Associate Director, presented on energy and environment at the Wabash Valley Power Association annual meeting on April 18-19, 2007 sponsored by the Energy Center at Purdue University .

John Bickham, Director, travelled to Tennessee to help establish inter-institutional relationships for future projects between Purdue, OakRidge Laboratory, and University of Tennessee . April 12-13, 2007.

John Bickham, Director, presented the mission and activities of the Center to the Indiana Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and also to a group of prospective environmental engineering graduate students on March 2, 2007.

Brent Ladd, Learning and Engagement Coordinator, presented a workshop for the Tippecanoe County Master Naturalists on February 27, 2007.
