Research conducted under the Sustainable Indiana Futures focus area will couple Purdue's current capabilities in environmental and economic forecast modeling to address how land use and climate change would impact four key land based industries in Indiana : agriculture, forestry and wood products, tourism and recreation and mining/extraction. Tools that predict the environmental and economic outcomes of land use and decisions would greatly enhance the ability to promote environmentally sound economic development in Indiana . This program focus is closely related to other efforts including ECO-Hub, the Purdue Regional Environmental Change Impacts Project (PRECIP), and the Purdue Interdisciplinary Center for Ecological Sustainability (PICES), Center for Regional Development, and the Global Sustainable Industrial Systems Research Group.
