Learning Community Students Visit Purdue's Office of Technology Commercialization
January 21, 2014
Most freshmen never set foot in Purdue Research Park. That's not so for those in the Fall 2013 Entrepreneurship Learning Community, who took a class field trip recently to Purdue's technology park to learn about the commercialization process.
Some 40 students in Certificate Program instructor Mike Cassidy's
ENTR 200 class made an off-campus trip to the Herman and Heddy Kurz Purdue Technology Center, home of Purdue's Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC). The students met OTC project manager Jon Gortat, and heard about the steps involved in taking a product to market.
The presentation included a discussion about the importance of being able to pivot when unexpected results arise, different types of patents, and a Q & A session in which students asked about topics including software copyrighting and international patenting.
"I was very happy to be a part of the field trip, as I learned new ideas and funding options for my business ideas," says Mahesh Babu, a student in the class.
