Biography

Audeen W. Fentiman is the Associate Dean of Engineering for Graduate Education and Interdisciplinary Studies and a Professor of Nuclear Engineering at Purdue University. Before moving to Purdue in the spring of 2006, she was Chair of the Nuclear Engineering Program and Director of the Nuclear Reactor Laboratory at Ohio State University where she had previously served as Director of the interdisciplinary Environmental Science Graduate Program. She is a member of the National Nuclear Accrediting Board, which accredits training programs at nuclear power plants, and chairs the External Steering Committee for the Nuclear Nonproliferation Initiative at Idaho National Laboratory. Prior to accepting a faculty position, Dr. Fentiman worked at Battelle Memorial Institute where she was a Senior Engineer in the Systems Engineering Department within the Office of Nuclear Waste Isolation and focused on performance assessment of a high-level radioactive waste repository. She also served as deputy manager of a project to characterize experimentally the results of terrorist attacks on spent fuel shipping casks. Dr. Fentiman is co-author, with James Saling, of a textbook entitled Radioactive Waste Management. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has chaired several national committees of the American Nuclear Society and the American Society for Engineering Education. She has strong interests in energy policy, nuclear energy utilization, radioactive waste management, and engineering education.
