Professor Hutzel is pursuing research collaborations at the intersection of technology and public policy as it relates to high performance buildings, which apply sustainability concepts, advanced technologies, and renewable energy systems to pursue net zero energy. In other words, the goal is economically viable methods for constructing and operating both commercial and residential buildings so that they produce as much on site energy as they consume on an annual basis. Professor Hutzel manages the Applied Energy Laboratory on the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University and recently completed a one-year fellowship on Capitol Hill.
