Description

Eileen Claussen is an Executive in Residence at the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University.She is the founder and first President of the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, formerly the Pew Center on Global Climate Change.The Center has consistently been ranked among the top environmental think tanks in the world.

Prior to forming the Center, Claussenwas the Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs.She also served as a Special Assistant to the President for Global Environmental Affairs at the National Security Council, and as Director of the Office of Atmospheric Programs at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.In these capacities, she represented the United States in international negotiations on climate change, on the depletion of the ozone layer, on forests and fisheries; was responsible for domestic regulations under Titles IV and VI of the Clean Air Act; and was responsible for the development of the Energy Star Program.

Claussenreceived her B.A. from George Washington University, her M.A. from the University of Virginia, and an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Singapore Energy Advisory Committee, and the Advisory Board of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford. She is the author of many articles on energy and climate change; was the Timothy AtkesonScholar in Residence at Yale University; and has received numerous awards and honors, including the Distinguished Executive Award for Sustained Extraordinary Accomplishment and the Department of State Career Achievement Award.
