Overview
The Purdue Discovery Lecture Series will be held on Nov. 8, 2007, at Ross-Ade Pavilion
on Purdue’s campus. Presentations from six distinguished speakers will provide a
brief synopsis on the world today and how the biotech industry has driven change in the
healthcare world and its developments, environment changes in healthcare delivery and reimbursement,
and marketplace changes. More than 10,000 biotech companies today have resulted from the roughly
50 years since Watson and Crick discovered the double helix and the roughly 35 years since
the industry’s origin. Industry giants like Amgen and Genentech with $100 billion in market
capital each, to the new startups in China, India, Germany, and Eastern Europe have also
resulted from this change. This is an industry transforming the world and, simultaneously,
being transformed by it.
