Dr. Gesualdo Scutari Joins the Cyber Center

October 7, 2015

Dr. Gesualdo Scutari has joined the Cyber Center as Scientific Director of Big Data Analysis. Dr. Scutari is an Associate Professor with the Dept. of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. Before joining Purdue, he was an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering at University at Buffalo, the State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo, NY, USA. Dr. Scutari received the Electrical Engineering degree and the Ph.D. degree (both with highest honors) from the University of Rome, “La Sapienza”, Rome, Italy, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. He had previously held several research appointments, namely, at University of California at Berkeley; Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong; University of Rome, “La Sapienza”, Rome, Italy; and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL, USA.

Dr. Scutari’s current research interests lie in the broad areas of continuous optimization and equilibrium modeling in large-scale systems and networks, ranging from advanced mathematical formulations and their properties to computation and algorithm analysis, through to applications in the field of signal processing, communications, networking, smart grid, and machine learning.

As part of the Cyber Center, Scutari will lead multi-disciplinary research focusing on novel techniques, based on parallel processing and optimization techniques, for efficient analytics on big data for different data types, such as streaming data and unstructured data. He will also focus on multi-disciplinary applications of algorithmic game theory and signal processing techniques.
