About the Project Director
Kevin Robert Gurney, PhD, MS, MPP
Kevin Robert Gurney, PhD, MS, MPP, holds advanced degrees in atmospheric science, ecology, and public policy. His research spans the broad arena of “global change.” In particular, he is interested in quantification and mechanistic understanding of the global carbon cycle with emphasis on exchanges of CO2 with the terrestrial biosphere, fossil fuel sources of CO2, and interaction with current and projected climate change.
Gurney has been a pioneer in quantifying global sources and sinks of carbon through the atmospheric inverse approach. This work, along with his new research on fine-scale quantification of fossil fuel CO2 emissions and deforestation policy have made him a leader in carbon and climate change policy. He continues to work nationally and internationally with negotiators, scientists, and participants of the Kyoto process.
