Biography

Laura’s research focuses on how hydrologic processes are altered through human intervention across multiple scales and ecosystems in the northern hemisphere. Specific research projects utilize a combination of remote sensing, field data collection and hydrologic models to identify gaps in knowledge and improve predictive capabilities of hydrologic simulation models in order to predict the hydrologic consequences of environmental change (i.e. land use and climate change). In particular, she is interested in the interaction between surface climatology and the processes that control runoff production in the Arctic (snow melt, sublimation, lakes and wetlands, and permafrost) at large spatial scales, and the sensitivity of these systems to observed changes in climate. Her current working is on the diagnosis and prognosis of effects of changes in lake and wetland extent on the regional carbon balance of northern Eurasia.
