Thomas Hertel: Climate Change, Poverty, and Food Security

September 30 @ 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM - MRGN 121

Following an overview of some of the key insights from the scientific literature, Dr. Hertel will focus discussion on several of the most controversial topics at the interface of climate, poverty, and food security. Climate change is a ‘wicked problem’ presenting great challenges, not only to the natural sciences, but also to the social sciences and humanities. The talk will explore the competing interests of developing countries and wealthy countries as they develop climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies that protect food safety and biodiversity, while maintaining food security for the global poor.
