Purdue Award Notice

The Division of Financial Aid (DFA) has sent 2012-13 award notices to first-time students who are admitted to Purdue, applied for financial aid, and submitted all verification information requested. Notification was sent to the student's Purdue.edu email address as long as it has already been established. The email directs students to view their financial aid offer online in their myPurdue system under the Financial Tab. Notifications will be sent to parents who supplied a parent email address on the FAFSA this week. Award letters will also be sent through postal mail to the family's home address this week.

As families review the award notice and Purdue Financial Aid Terms and Conditions, keep in mind that grants and scholarships are types of gift assistance that do not need to be repaid. Loans and work-study are types of self-help financial aid that must be repaid either in money or labor. Please read messages and follow any instructions.

More Guidance Available

The Division of Financial Aid and Bursar's Office offer an interactive Paying for Purdue workshop for incoming freshman families to go over financial aid, billing, and payment plan information as part of the Student Transition, Access, and Success (STAR) orientation program. The Paying for Purdue presentation is planned for June and July 2012. Incoming freshmen and their families will have the chance to meet with a financial aid counselor on an individual basis.

Award Notice Checklist

Students with financial aid eligibility may need to take some action steps summarized here:

Be sure to accept (or reject) student loan and work-study aid eligibility via myPurdue, the online Financial Aid Self Service system. Note that acceptance is required if a student wants a Federal Stafford Loan, Perkins Loan, Purdue Loan, Health Professions Loan, or Grad PLUS loan to be credited on Bursar billings that begin in July.

First time Stafford Loan borrowers should review a Direct Loan Fact Sheet and are required to complete Entrance Loan Counseling at www.studentloans.gov (Click on the Entrance Loan Counseling icon). Note: An Entrance Loan Counseling requirement may still show as incomplete in the myPurdue system until Department of Education files are processed by the Division of Financial Aid beginning July 1, 2012; no additional student action is necessary in this situation, as long as the Entrance Counseling has been completed.

Creditworthy parents or graduate students interested in applying for a PLUS Loan should review our Direct Loan Fact Sheet for information and start the 2012-13 PLUS application process at www.studentloans.gov (login to "Manage My Direct Loans").

If not already on file, student and parent borrowers must sign a master promissory note (MPN) for Stafford Loans, Parent PLUS loans, and Grad PLUS loans at www.studentloans.gov. Note: An MPN requirement may still show as incomplete in the myPurdue system until Department of Education files are processed by the Division of Financial Aid beginning July 1, 2012; no additional student or parent action is necessary in this situation, as long as the MPN has been completed.

Students who have been offered and accepted Perkins Loan, Purdue Loan, and Health Professions Loan should receive instructions to sign a master promissory note at www.ecsi.net/prom3P.

All students are required to report any private scholarships, university fee remissions, or other forms of assistance of financial aid to the Division of Financial Aid. Please see our Private Scholarship Reporting page for more information on reporting private scholarships and our Fee Remission Reporting Form for Purdue-employment fee remissions.

Students who are not planning to enroll full time for both the Fall and Spring terms should submit Enrollment Plans to our office.

If any questions, financial aid counselors are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by telephone (765-494-5050) or in person (Schleman Hall Room 305); an email inquiry service is also available for use.
