Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

The Division of Financial Aid (DFA) is required by federal regulation to determine whether a student is enrolled in a degree-seeking program and is meeting satisfactory academic progress requirements. Students need to become familiar with the three components of the Purdue University Division of Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy, which uses both qualitative and quantitative measurements. The Purdue University Regulations Regarding Scholastic Deficiency contains information about academic regulations, grade definitions, and scholastic index definitions, which are congruent with a portion of these components.

The student's official academic record, maintained by the Office of the Registrar, is reviewed by DFA annually at the end of each spring term to determine compliance with this policy. Students that are not meeting requirements are provided a warning message and allowed a single year of financial aid probation. If the standards have not been met at the end of the probationary year, or any year thereafter, financial aid eligibility is denied. Students that are denied aid eligibility may appeal to the Division of Financial Aid Review Committee for an exception to this policy.
