The Division of Financial Aid calculates an estimated cost of attendance for student financial aid applicants based on federal student aid guidance. The Division of Financial Aid surveys a sample of students every 2-3 years to help estimate costs accurately. To see standard cost of attendance estimates visit www.purdue.edu/dfa/all/cost.htm.
Cost of attendance estimates vary based on enrollment level each semester and a variety of other factors:
Tuition and Fees Estimate: Varies dependent on the following factors: 1) whether the student is an Indiana resident or nonresident; 2) what is the college/school of enrollment; 3) what semester did the student first matriculate to Purdue; 4) whether the student is enrolled full time, three-quarter-time, half-time, or less-than-half-time; and 5) whether the student is enrolled in any higher cost courses. Note that actual tuiton and fee calculations and billings are done by the Bursar; more information about fee rates available at www.purdue.edu/Bursar/fees.htm.
Room and Board Allowance: A standard allowance is provided if the student lives in Purdue residence halls or off-campus; a lesser allowance is provided if the student lives with parents and commutes; if a student is enrolled less-than-half-time no room and board allowance can be provided.
Books and Supplies Allowance: A standard allowance is generally provided based on survey data dependent on whether the student is enrolled full time (100% allowance), three-quarter-time (75% allowance), half-time (50% allowance), or less-than-half-time (25% allowance).
Travel Allowance: Varies dependent on whether the student is from midwest or has traveled to Purdue from outside the midwest; a larger allowance is provided to local students commuting from parents home; allowance varies dependent on whether the student is enrolled full time (100% allowance), three-quarter-time (75% allowance), half-time (50% allowance), or less-than-half-time (25% allowance).
Miscellaneous Personal Expense Allowance: A standard allowance for the cost of clothing, laundry, and recreation expenese is generally provided based on survey data; if a student is enrolled less-than-half-time no personal expense allowance can be provided.
Childcare Allowance: A standard allowance is generally provided based on survey data dependent on how many children are in the household for which student must pay child care for to attend classes; the allowance varies dependent on whether the student is married, whether the spouse is a student or employed, and whether the student is enrolled full time (100% allowance), three-quarter-time (75% allowance), half-time (50% allowance), or less-than-half-time (25% allowance).
