2009 Summer Aid Request

YOU MUST HAVE FILED A 2008-2009 FAFSA WITH PURDUE AND ENROLL IN AT LEAST ONE CREDIT HOUR IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE SUMMER AID

There are eligibility requirements associated with your application for summer aid. Please read the Summer Eligibility Requirements below. Note that most international students are not eligible for need based aid programs; information on international student aid eligibility is available elsewhere on the DFA website.

DEADLINE: For priority funding consideration you must submit a completed summer aid request form to the Division of Financial Aid by March 1, 2009. No requests will be accepted after July 31, 2009.

REMEMBER: Certain types of aid require half-time enrollment (6 credit hours undergraduate, 4 hours graduate). If at any time during the enrollment period you drop hours, your aid may be adjusted and you could receive a bill.

(6 hours undergraduate, 4 hours graduate) - A 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be filed. - Submit this application by March 1, 2009 for priority status consideration. - Summer applications will not be accepted after July 31, 2009. - If you drop hours at any time during your summer enrollment, your aid may be adjusted and you may receive a bill. - Notify the Division of Financial Aid if you decide to cancel this application. - Seniors in Veterinary Medicine or Doctor of Pharmacy are not required to complete this form. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - You must complete this application in order to be considered for any type of summer assistance. - Grant Aid (other than Pell Grant and Child of Disabled Veteran Fee Remission), Perkins Loan, Purdue Loan, Work-Study, and Stafford/PLUS Loans require at least half-time enrollment during summer. - For undergraduates, full-time enrollment is 12 credit hours or more; 6 credit hours for half-time. - For graduate students, full-time enrollment is 8 credit hours or more; 4 credit hours for half-time. - Alternative loan may be available to students enrolled less than half time. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS - The Summer Financial Aid Application (this form). - A 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) unless you only want a PLUS Loan or Alternative Loan. The Federal processor must receive your 2008-2009 FAFSA no later than June 30, 2009. - Any documents required to complete your 2008-2009 FAFSA file. The Division of Financial Aid (DFA) will notify you for any necessary documents, such as a student tax return or parent tax return. Do NOT submit information unless requested to do so by our office. PELL GRANT INFORMATION Eligibility for a summer 2009 Pell Grant will be calculated based on any unused Pell Grant remaining from the fall 2008 and spring 2009 semesters. If you drop hours or enroll in fewer hours than you list on your summer aid application, your award will be reduced. STAFFORD/PLUS LOAN INFORMATION Any Stafford Loans borrowed during the summer are contingent on whether or not you have borrowed the full amount of your eligibility at your grade level during the 2008-2009 academic year. Based on regulations governing the federal loan programs, if you have borrowed the full amount of your Stafford Loan during the academic year, there may be no eligibility remaining for summer. Your summer financial aid eligibility on myPurdue.purdue.edu will estimate your loan eligibility and outline any other sources of aid available. To take advantage of a stafford loan, merely accept the award on myPurdue.purdue.edu. To take advantage of a parent loan, a parent loan request form must be submitted. ***OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION*** - If you reach or exceed the maximum number of attempted credit hours for your degree objective prior to the 2009 summer session, you will be denied summer aid. See a counselor in the Division of Financial Aid to appeal a denial status. - If you are on Financial Aid Probation for failing to successfully complete a minimum of 67% of attempted credit hours, your spring 2009 academic record must be reviewed by the Division of Financial Aid to determine if you have raised your completion rate to the required minimum. If you have not, you will be denied summer aid eligibility. - The Satisfactory Academic Progress website can be found at http://www.purdue.edu/DFA/all/sap.htm. - If you have any active holds on your account, you must clear the holds before your summer aid can be processed. - In order to receive financial aid, you must be attending classes. If you cease to attend classes, your financial aid will be adjusted to reflect your eligibility based on the last date of attendance. You may be billed for all or a portion of your aid based on the last date you attended class. FM 733
