| In 2001-02,
611 Purdue students participated in an approved program of
study abroad, half of which participated in Purdue faculty-led
programs. The number of Purdue students studying abroad has
been increasing from only 151 students a decade ago, to 248
students five years ago, to our present number of 611.
Purdue offers students within all fields of
study the opportunity to participate in international study
programs now in 46 countries. In most programs, students earn
Purdue credit for courses completed. Although the academic
experience is rigorous, programs allow extensive contact with
the local cultures.
Every effort is made to keep program costs as
close as possible to the cost of study on the West Lafayette
campus. Students eligible for financial aid may use most forms
of aid on approved programs.
Students may spend a year, semester, or summer
abroad. Foreign language requirements vary from none to the
advanced level. Some programs are designed for students in
specific areas of study, while others are open to all Purdue
students regardless of major.
The Office of Programs for Study Abroad and
the Office of International Programs are working with departments
and schools to develop new program possibilities to involve
even more students and faculty.
