In 2000-01, 504 Purdue students participated
in an approved program of study abroad. The number of
Purdue students studying abroad has been increasing
each year, from only 88 students 10 years ago, to 276
students five years ago, to our present number of 504.
An additional 50 students participated in an international
study tour through the Office of Lifelong Learning.
Purdue offers students within all fields
of study the opportunity to participate in international
study programs in more than 40 countries. In most programs,
students earn Purdue credit for courses completed. Although
the academic experience is rigorous, programs allow
extensive contact with the local culture.
Every effort is made to keep program costs
as close as possible to the cost of study on the West
Lafayette campus. Students eligible for financial aid
may use most forms of aid on approved programs.
Students may spend a year, semester, or
summer abroad. Foreign language requirements vary from
none to the advanced level. Some programs are designed
for students in specific areas of study, while others
are open to all Purdue students regardless of major.
