In March of 2013, Purdue University received a Silver AASHE STARS rating. AASHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) has developed STARS (Sustainability
Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System) as the national standard for sustainability reporting in higher education. STARS is a self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to assess full-spectrum
sustainability performance that is designed to:
                 
  l Provide a basis to gauge sustainability practices and performance in all sectors of higher education. Create incentives for continual improvement toward sustainability.
  l Enable meaningful comparisons over time and across institutions using a common set of measurements. Facilitate a stronger, more diverse campus sustainability community.
                 
Purdue’s STARS rating is valid for three years. As of December 2013, 284 institutions of higher eduction have received a STARS rating. More information on Purdue’s STARS submission can be found at:

The data presented here roughly covers the three broad environmental categories of energy, water, and waste for the last four fiscal years.
