Dependent Grant Application Frequently Asked Questions


Q. How many times can I apply for the grant?

 A. There is no limit to the number of times someone can apply.

 Q. If there are multiple members in a family how many can apply for that family?

 A. There is no limit to the number of family members who can apply.

 Q. If I received a grant in the past, will this hinder me from receiving a future grant?

 A. Whether or not an applicant received a CSSAC grant in previous years may or may not be a factor.

 Q. Can this grant be used for Ivy Tech?

 A. No, it can only be used for Purdue, West Lafayette courses.

 Q. Where is the grant application information published?

 A. Information is sent via campus mail to all clerical and service staff on the West Lafayette campus. The application is available via the CSSAC website during the application period.

Q. When will applicants be notified?

 A. Letters are mailed to all applicants in July.

Q. When a parent calls on behalf of the dependent, can they be given information regarding the grant?

 A. No. Due to FERPA regulations, information is only given to the applicant. (dependent)

Q. Are students still eligible for the grant if they choose to attend another university?

 A. No, the grant is only available to Purdue, West Lafayette students.

Q. When can applicants apply for the CSSAC grant?

 A. The application period is from mid-February through April 15 at 5 p.m.  If this date falls on a weekend, the deadline becomes the following Monday at 5 p.m.

 Q. When does aid get applied?

 A. Aid is applied at the start of the fall semester.

Q. How is aid applied?

 A. Aid is applied by the Bursars Office.

Q. Can the grant be applied to the spring semester, if the fall semester was deferred?

 A. Grant monies, if awarded, will only be applied to a semester in which classes are taken.

Q. If I want to take classes in the spring but not in the fall, can I still apply for the grant?

 A. Yes, but you will only receive monies for the semester in which you take classes.

Q. Are the dependent grants for children of employees only; or does this include spouses as well?

A. Spouses do not qualify for CSSAC dependent grants; they are intended for dependent children of current employees or retirees.

Q. How can I obtain my PUID number if I am a dependent?

A. The PUID number will be on top of the response form that is sent from the university upon acceptance.  Purdue Admissions can also be consulted at 765-494-1776.

Q. How do I apply?

A. Applications are available each year on the CSSAC website. Information regarding the application period is sent to all clerical and service staff on the West Lafayette campus.

Q. Can this grant be used for professional development seminars?

A. No, it can only be used for courses at Purdue, West Lafayette .

Q. How many grants are given each year?

A. Approximately 40+ dependent grants and 25+ employee grants are awarded each year.

Q. What do I need to submit with my application for a dependent grant?

A. A dependent only needs to submit a current application.

Q. How long does an employee have to work at Purdue before their dependent is eligible for the dependent grant?

A. The parent or legal guardian must have been employed as a regular, full-time clerical or service staff employee at Purdue West Lafayette for one continuous year prior to the dependent applying.

Q. How many credit hours must a dependent take to qualify for eligibility?

A. Applicant must be admitted as a full-time, undergraduate student (except when less than nine hours are needed to graduate) at Purdue in a curriculum leading to an associate or bachelor degree.

Q. Can a dependent attend graduate school and still apply for the grant?

A. The dependant must be a full-time, undergraduate student.

Q. Do I need to send transcripts with the application?

A. No transcripts are needed for this process.

Q. Registration begins after the application process. Can I still apply for the grant?

A. Yes. CSSAC will verify with the Bursar’s office whether or not a dependent has applied and been accepted to Purdue.

  Q. Do I need to submit my FAFSA with the dependent application?

A. FAFSA must be submitted to the University, but does not need to accompany the application.

 Q. What grade point average is required for dependents?

A. Dependents must have a minimum grade point average of a 2.5 out of a 4.0 scale.

Q. What happens in the event that a recipient fails to register, drops out of school or changes from full-time to a part-time student?

A. The award is forfeited by the recipient.
