Moulin Rouge—The Ballet
Royal Winnipeg Ballet
Saturday, March 24, 2012 / 8pm / Elliott Hall of Music

Exuberant choreography and a stirring score spanning Chopin to can-can complement this fiery, passionate saga of love, ambition, and heartbreak in Paris around the turn of the 20th century. At a time when lovers’ hearts and poets’ souls fan the flames of reckless abandonment and personal freedom, Matthew and Nathalie tempt fate as they seek love and destiny at the infamous cabaret, the Moulin Rouge.
The first company permitted to commission a ballet bearing the storied French cabaret’s name, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet blends a 70-year legacy of innovative dance and meticulous production detail—here including 150 custom-made costumes and an extraordinary set that incorporates iconic Parisian landmarks—to present a transfixing, high-wattage adaptation of a romance in the City of Light.
