Christmas in Ireland: An Nollaig in Éirinn
Thursday, December 8, 2011 / 7:30pm / Long Center for the Performing Arts
Direct from Ireland, the acclaimed Celtic ensemble Danú celebrates a traditional Irish Christmas with An Nollaig in Éirinn. The ensemble’s virtuoso players on fiddle, flutes, button accordion, and percussion, as well as the gorgeous voice of Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, have “affirmed [their] place among the elite of Irish traditional bands today.” (The Irish Echo) In Ireland, the festival of Christmas has for centuries been celebrated with traditional Irish music and song, including musical tributes to early Irish traditions such as The Laden Table, placing a candle in a window, and touring from house to house on St. Stephen’s Day. Winner of major awards from the BBC and Irish Music Magazine, Danú returns to the U.S. in December to brighten your holiday season in a jubilant Celtic celebration.
