Level I

This five-day program is the first of two levels provided by the Collegiate Management Institute. The program emphasizes the development of creative leadership and management performance skills related to business, administrative, personal, and organizational practices.

Throughout the week, participants become involved in intensive studies and practical experiences relevant to everyday work. Each day, following creative presentations, participants are involved in intensive work sessions with team members. In these sessions, case study materials are analyzed in-depth and alternative solutions to campus-related problems are developed. view CMI & Alumni Experience Brochure

"I had a great time this year (as well as last year) at CMI. I thought the classes were all good and informative and it was great to see all the familiar faces again, and make new friends. Thank you Dennis Shaw for being such a wonderful advisor!"

 Level II

After successfully completing Level I of the Collegiate Management Institute, graduates may enroll in the five-day Level II program the following year. Participants continue to develop and extend leadership concepts with emphasis on the application of skills and knowledge to administrative and financial operations and management in higher education.

Level II activities enhance creative thinking and problem solving abilities through a continuation of teamwork, using work-related tasks and networking. Participants explore the relationship of institutional organizations, planning, budgeting, consensus building, and quality process implementation. They learn to take responsibility for lifelong learning and the identification of resources to facilitate quality outcomes on campuses and in their communities. view CMI & Alumni Experience Brochure

Awards

Participants who successfully complete this specialized two-level program receive two distinct awards in recognition of their professional accomplishments. Those who complete the Level I program receive a Certificate of Recognition. Graduates of the two-year program receive the Professional Diploma, which serves to recognize their outstanding achievements and leadership skills. These CMI awards have gained acceptance among administrators in higher education as indicated by CMI graduates who report job promotions, increased career opportunities, and financial gain. Also, participants earn CEUs from CACUBO and NAPM.

The Alumni Experience - Continuing Professional Education

CMI alumni value their experience and training at the Collegiate Management Institute and recommended the development of continuing education activities that complement Levels I and II. Participant evaluations from the inaugural program in 2000, held in conjunction with CACUBO’s annual meeting, strongly urged the continuance of the program, not as a Level III, but as an alumni professional experience modeling the CMI format and its concepts.

The first CMI Alumni Experience was held in May 2005, as an integral part of the regular CMI 2005 institute Participants rated the program highly and we accepted their recommendation to offer the same exact program in 2006. At the October 2007 CACUBO Annual Meeting in Chicago, the CACUBO Board approved to continue the CMI Alumni Experience for 2008, 2009, and 2010. The program for 2008 will be the exact one offered in 2007. view CMI & Alumni Experience Brochure

I am a total believer in CMI! The second year of CMI offers a totally different experience of professional development for the attendee. Excellent programming, followed by cluster and small group interactions, build on the first year activities. At the same time, individuals have more opportunities to interact with colleagues in an informal way to discuss personal, workplace, and professional issues. CMI II like CMI I is an excellent investment in personal and professional growth. My only regret is that there is no week long CMI III to look forward to next summer.
