Sandra S. Liu, PhD, MBA, MS in Preventive Medicine, joined Purdue University as a faculty member in 2001 and is currently Professor in Department of Consumer Science and Director of the Center for Global Urban Sustainability — Ensuring Sustainable Health among Underserved of College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University. After attaining her Ph.D. in Policy Studies from University of London, Sandra continued her training in managing Executive MBA Planning at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. She also holds a MBA from Pepperdine University, Masters of Science in both Preventive Medicine and Veterinary Pharmacology from the Ohio State University, and Bachelor's in Pharmacy from Taipei Medical College (Taiwan). Dr. Liu was elected Fellow of Hong Kong Institute of Marketing, one of the founding members of World Marketing Association, together with American Marketing Association, European Marketing Association, and Latin American Marketing Confederation. Prior to becoming an academician in 1990, Dr. Liu had worked extensively in the healthcare sector, including Ohio Department of Health, Bristol Myers (Taiwan) Ltd, and Allergan Inc. with responsibilities ranging from discovery, clinical research, program planning and monitoring, to international sales and marketing across the United States and Asia Pacific. Dr. Liu remains to be active in consulting and executive training for businesses and public health globally with projects. Examples are: Community health outreach and enrollment programs in Indiana, patient-centered care for Ascension Health, sales management for National Oilwell Varco in the US and 3M Hong Kong Limited in Hong Kong, business modeling for social determinants of health for tribal populations in Taiwan, and hospital management through Bayer healthcare Ltd. in China, CURE-San Pedro Sula in Latin America, and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. Dr. Liu has authored a number of articles and several marketing books and published journal articles for her research endeavors. Currently, Dr. Liu is very active in the public health scene in the State of Indiana and she is currently the council member of Indiana Public Health Association’s Indiana Accreditation Partnership and Indiana Public Health Practice Council. Her recent projects include: 1) Examining barriers and needs of local health departments for their public health performance improvement and accreditation exercises; 2) building system for effective community outreach and engagement processes, and (3) constructing sustainable business models for the community-based health and wellbeing initiatives.
