Travel Card Program

Purdue offers an American Express Corporate Card to all regular faculty and administrative and professional staff who travel on university business. Employees not eligible for the cards are student employees (graduate and undergraduate); clerical and service staff; and monthly paid staff with visiting, temporary or adjunct appointments.

The cards are offered at no annual fee and also provide the employee with additional identification as a university staff member. Staff eligible for the cards will not be entitled to full travel advances from the Purdue Research Foundation. Those not eligible for the cards will continue to have access to travel advances for most expenses incurred while traveling.

Traveler Responsibility

Even though the cards are "Corporate" cards, the traveler is personally responsible for all charges made to the cards. It is the traveler's responsibility to request reimbursement of expenses in a timely manner and to keep the cards in good standing. Purdue has no liability to American Express for any cards issued to employees. The American Express Card are not revolving charge cards, it is expected that their balance be paid in full each month.

How to Apply

Applications for the cards can be obtained from departmental business offices or by contacting the travel clerk in Disbursements. Completed forms should be sent to Central Travel Office in Freehafer Hall. American Express reviews and makes the decision to grant the card. If the application is approved the applicant will receive the card in the mail at their home address within four weeks.

Termination of Employment

Upon termination of employment, the cards should be cut in half and returned to the departmental business office or sent to the Central Travel Office in Freehafer Hall. If the card is not returned, it will be canceled upon notification from Human Resources that an employee has been terminated.
