Learn About Suppliers That Support Environmentally Friendly Products or Services

Listed below are only a handful of University suppliers that support sustainable purchasing related programs:

    • Fisher Scientific- "Eco-friendly" products.  The organization has a strong corporate culture to produce a sustainable culture.
    • Sigma-Aldrich maintains the following simple and clear goals for their operations:
      • Meet and exceed where possible, applicable governmental environmental protection, health and safety requirements.
      • Design and operate facilities in a manner that reduces or eliminates risk to the environment, human health and safety.
      • Consistently evaluates the reduction, reuse, and recycling of materials across our business wherever possible.
      • Minimize the amount of spent material generated that is released to the air, water or land.
      • Support the underlying principles of the U.N. global compact for sustainability.
      • Offers a Styrofoam recycling program for items shipped on ice.  Styrofoam is inside a box and the Styrofoam boxes can be returned to Sigma and recycled and/or reused.  Sigma ships out a return label with every box with instructions on how to get the Styrofoam box returned.

energyStar Energy Star is a government backed program that helps businesses and consumers protect the environment through energy efficiency.  Energy Star provides a trustworthy label on thousands of products that use less energy and save money.
greenSeal

 

Green Seal is a non-profit organization that identifies and promotes products and services that cause less toxic pollution and waste, conserve resources and habitats, and minimizes global warming and ozone depletion.

 

recycledContent Recycled Content:  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), publishes the Comprehensive Procurement Guideline (CPG) to encourage the use of materials through recycling with the goal to reduce the amount of disposed waste.  Read more about CPG on EPA's website.
epeat EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) is a system to help purchasers in the public and private sectors evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors based on their environmental attributes.  EPEAT also provides a clear and consistent set of performance criteria for the design of products, and provides an opportunity for manufacturers to secure market recognition for efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products.
fsc The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization that brings people together to find solutions which promote responsible stewardship of the world's forests.
